So Fundamental was founded by Trelani Michelle to help people who were better speakers than writers become authors. The company has since expanded to help a variety of individuals and organizations craft narratives that leave people wanting more. With a deep commitment to authenticity and cultural sensitivity, So Fundamental offers expert writing, editing, and consultation services across a wide range of mediums, from memoirs and self-help books to speeches, social media content, and more. My work bridges the gap between personal experiences and professional goals, ensuring that every project is impactful.
I understand the importance of respecting cultural nuances and ensuring that your message is not only heard but also deeply connected to the values and experiences of your audience. Whether you’re telling your personal story through a memoir, sharing your expertise in a self-help book, or crafting a message that speaks to specific communities, I’m here to help you elevate your voice in a way that is both thoughtful and inclusive.
With more than 12 years of experience, through So Fundamental, I’ve co-written 16 books, edited more than 30 books, and have consulted countless individuals and organizations. Over the years, I’ve refined my approach to ensure each project receives the time, focus, and attention it deserves. To maintain a high standard of quality and provide a top-shelf experience, I’ve intentionally reduced the number of clients I work with at any given time. This allows me to dedicate my full expertise and energy to each project, ensuring that every client receives a personalized and exceptional outcome.
Story behind the name?
While a participant at the Black Writer’s Reunion and Conference in 2012, my roommate explained the process of self-publishing to me. One of the first steps was choosing a name for my publishing company. Over the next two days, I thought about the role of storytelling in my life—fiction and nonfiction. It’s a lifeline, a way to gain clarity, and convey what I have to say. Storytelling is important. It’s foundational. Fundamental. So Fundamental.
